NTT DATA Opens 12 MW JKT2A Jakarta Annex Built for AI and High-Performance Compute

NTT DATA inaugurated its Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center, or JKT2A, on November 3, adding purpose-built capacity for cloud, artificial intelligence and high-performance compute in Southeast Asia, ANTARA reported. Managing director for Japan and APAC at NTT Global Data Center, Yasuhiro Kajiki, said the expansion knits facilities together through APN Connect and reflects Indonesia’s status as a priority market because of the sheer volume of users and connected devices generating traffic.

JKT2A is designed for AI-ready loads at 12 megawatts inside the existing NTT Global Data Centers campus in Jakarta. It extends the JKT2 ecosystem, already an interconnection hub for more than 240 network providers, JKT-IX, major cloud platforms and submarine-cable landings, so clients can scale without rebuilding partner connectivity from scratch. Alongside the opening, NTT launched APN Connect, an all-photonics optical service linking JKT2/JKT2A with JKT3 about 35 kilometres away for low-latency replication and disaster recovery.

Kajiki said AI data-centre growth is shifting toward Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand as Singapore runs short of land and power for new builds. JKT2A carries Tier III design certification, dual power substations, 2N UPS architecture, N+1 generators and cooling, and round-the-clock layered physical security, while remaining carrier- and cloud-neutral.

What it means in practice

The annex adds private-sector muscle to a national map that already includes Komdigi’s push to site AI data centres from Sulawesi to Kupang with backup links beyond Java and governance debates such as BRIN’s call for a dedicated AI law in the DPR and DPD. For banks, telcos and manufacturers shopping for sovereign-leaning compute, a 12 MW AI-ready hall with optical failover is a concrete option rather than a slide-deck promise.

What to watch is how quickly JKT2A fills with GPU tenants, whether APN Connect becomes the default DR path for Jakarta workloads, and how NTT’s build pairs with state plans for larger AI factories elsewhere in the archipelago.
